Stockholm ImpACT Days brought together people who work on how we create more sustainable and future-proof cities. The theme this year was Re:think Cities, and The Dome Sweden was there with a message that belongs in that conversation.
What we said
The Stockholm region faces three challenges without precedent: a public-health crisis, an integration crisis and an infrastructure crisis, with more than thirty years of shortage of sports facilities. Greater access to sport is fundamental to the society we want, because it works as a direct catalyst for better public health, for integration and for socio-economic savings.
The Dome Sweden fits the Re:think Cities idea because it shows how tomorrow's urban sports facilities can advance social and environmental sustainability together. Gathering many sports and activities under one roof creates an inclusive and resource-efficient meeting place, and a social infrastructure where community, movement and environmentally responsible choices take shape. By hosting several hundred sports and socio-cultural events a year, the arena aims to become an engine for public health and for Stockholm's economy.
Re:think Cities is not about building differently. It is about thinking differently. The Dome Sweden is the proof that an arena can be more than an arena.
What we took home
The conversations confirmed what the project is built on: that cities are looking for infrastructure that does several jobs at once, that measurement matters more than claims, and that the partnership between public sector, business, the sports movement and civil society is the method, not an add-on.
